Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Research Donation

In September 2006 my wife and I got the shock of our lives.  She was perfectly healthy, in shape and very active.  Out of no where her hands went numb, then it spread to her feet, up to her stomach.  We did not know what was going on so we went to a doctor who sent us to a neurologist.  After a couple of MRI's we found out that she had Multiple Sclerosis.  We both were very upset and shocked for a long time. It effects us everyday.  It eventually left her where she could not even hold a pencil to write her name.  She has a drum set that she loves to play, and was not able to so this made it really hard for her among other things.  The doctor prescribed Avonex.  It is a shot given to help slow the progression of MS.  It is hard for her to take it, I have to give her one shot a week for the rest of her life, or until they find a cure, hopefully soon. Avonex along with other medications for MS has different side effects some people experience flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, sweating, muscle aches, and tiredness). For many people, these symptoms lessen or go away over time. She experiences these symptoms once a week after each shot for a day or two, then she is better and has to do it again.  She has regain some feeling back in her body and can now write her name again. But with Multiple Sclerosis it can flare up at any time and hit other spots.

It did flare up again in 2008 and she had a burning sensation in her face that would not go away.  It was going numb so we went and seen the doctor. She had to take steroids several days through hour long infusions.  She has lost the feeling that was there and her main side effect is that she can not go for as long a periods of time of walking without a numbness, tingling sensation going through her legs, kinda like pins and needles. We went on vacation 4-22-09 with my parents to Beautiful Yosemite National Forest.  She has always loved the outdoors and could hike all day long, really loved it!  Unfortunately she could not make it as far as she used to before MS on the hikes.  My mother and her had to head back early while they told my dad and I moved on.  I really hate seeing that to her considering how she used to be, so I pray every night for a cure for her and for everyone else with any kind of condition.  If you know any Scientists, Doctors, or people trying to find a cure for any kind of condition or disease please thank them, it really means a lot to me that people spend their lives trying to help out others.  Conditions like MS, Parkinson's Disease, Muscular Dystrophy, Alzheimer's are on the rise and we all need to support them to find a cure to make everyone's lives better.  It can happen to anyone, any time or geographic location, it changes lives everyday with tons of emotional strains and pain.  Thank you again to all the Scientist's Doctors and People who dedicate your lives for this battle, I wish you all the best!

Here are some of the symptoms that MS can cause;  Blindness, blurred vision, Loss of Muscular strength in legs and arms, Pain, Bladder and Bowl movements, Sexual Dysfunction, Loss of Balance and Coordination, Fatigue, Mood Changes, and Memory Loss are among the most common symptoms.

Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic demyelinating disorder of the central nervous system that often results in severe disability including the inability to walk, blindness, cognitive dysfunction, extreme fatigue and other serious symptoms. MS affects over 400,000 people in the US and 2 million individuals worldwide. The disorder occurs twice as often in women as in men. The cause is not known and there is no known cure.  The majority of the people it effects is in the age range of 20-40 years old but is found in children and older adults also.
